Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti celebrated in Goa.



Goa State to celebrate Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti today

PONDA: The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Jayanti will be celebrated in the state on February 19, with various taluka level programmes, informed the Director of Information and Publicity, Mr Menino Pires.


Briefing reporters, he further said that in Ponda, the Chief minister, Mr Digambar Kamat will pay floral tributes to the warrior, accompanied by the Home minister, Mr Ravi Naik and Transport Minister, Mr Ramakrishna Dhavalikar and other dignitaries, at Farmagudi at 9 a.m. on February 19.
The main function will be organised in association with the panchayat of Bandora.
He informed that on the day, Mr Chandrashekar Vasantrao Shikhre, a writer from Aurangabad will deliver the key note address on, ‘Shivaji and his secular diplomacy,’ which will be followed by an intercollegiate quiz competition on Shivaji’s life, and about 100 students will likely participate. He also said that the government had sanctioned Rs 75, 000 for each taluka to celebrate Shivaji Jayanti at their respected talukas.
Meanwhile in Bicholim, Shivaji Jayanti will be celebrated on a large scale by Shiv Jayanti Utsav samiti, Dicholi Bachav Abhiyan and the state government. Programmes will begin with the garlanding of statues of Shivaji at
Bicholim old bus stand and at Sal village at 9 a.m. Chitrrath procession (Float parade) depicting different incidents will also be held. It will start from Bordem at 5 p.m. and will culminate at Shivaji Maharaj Maidan, Bicholim in the evening. Mr Shivratna Shete from Rahuri, will give the keynote address at 5:30 p.m. at Shivaji maidan and later at 10 p.m. the historic drama, ‘Raygadala Jevha Jag Yete’ will be performed by the local
drama artistes, informed Mr Naresh Sawal, the president of Shivaji
Jayanti Utsav samiti.


The State level committee (Tiswadi), Department of Information and
Publicity, Government of Goa has organized a series of events for
children upto 15 years to mark the Shivaji Jayanti celebrations in
Panaji. The celebrations shall be held on the 19th of February, from
2.00 pm onwards, at the Children’s Park at Campal-Panaji. A child Art
competition will be held in 2 categories, i.e. for 9 years and below
and from 10 to 15 years. The topic for the senior category is
Chatrapati Shivaji or Indian Culture while the junior category
children may draw on any topic. While drawing sheets will be provided,
the children have to get their own colours.

Other events:
Essay competition (3 to 4 pm), the topic of which shall be given on the spot;
Quiz competition(4.00 to 5pm) on the Life and Times of Chatrapati Shivaji and
Monologue(One Act play) on Shivaji Maharaj for 3 minutes maximum.

Attractive cash prizes and trophies will be awarded in each event and
Schools bagging the maximum number of Prizes will be awarded Special
trophies. Certificates will be awarded to all participants. In
addition, there will be an informative talk on Chatrapati Shivaji
Maharaj. Fun, music and entertainment programme and boat rides are
